How much does mediation cost?
Mediation is the most cost-effective way of arriving at an agreement after separation and is highly encouraged before resorting to the costly legal system involving solicitors and courts; it is much more inexpensive, quicker and normally anecdotal data confirms it often results in a much more effective way forward that is fair and practical than the court system often leads to. Mediation also keeps discussions private avoiding the often damaging publicity of a legal battle aired openly.
All of Salam Mediation’s fees are outlined below; there are no hidden extras. None. Our services can be mixed and matched to meet your own particular needs. 
Individual meeting (MIAM) – £125per person for 45 to 60 minutes
- Introduction: Explanation of mediation and the mediator’s role.
- Discussion: Overview of your issues (child arrangements, finances).
- Suitability Check: Assessment of whether mediation is appropriate.
- Next Steps: Information on proceeding with mediation or other options.
- Admin Details: Fees, session structure, and MIAM certificate if needed.
This meeting usually lasts around 45 to 60 minutes and is conducted via online video call.
Joint mediation meetings – £180per person per 120 minutes
- Introduction: Recap of the mediation process and ground rules.
- Issue Identification: Both parties share their concerns and priorities.
- Discussion and Negotiation: Explore options and negotiate solutions with the mediator’s guidance.
- Exploring Feasibility: Assess the practicality and feasibility of proposed solutions for drafting agreements.
- Next Steps: Finalise agreements or schedule additional sessions if needed.
Subsequent meetings can be scheduled in 90-minute slots at £150 per person.
Administrative costsper person
Mediator Certificates / Signed Court Forms (C100, Form A, FM1)
- £35 admin fee
- Proof of attendance required for family court applications.
- Includes C100 applications regarding children and financial order applications using Form A.
- Certificates will be provided promptly upon request.
Drafting Proposals and Agreements
Fixed fee of £150 per person – covers the preparation of:
- Parenting Plan: Details the arrangements and agreements regarding the care and upbringing of children.
- Open Financial Statement (OFS): Summarises financial information for both parties.
- Memorandum of Understanding (MOU): Outlines the agreements reached during mediation.
Cost may vary based on the complexity of the arrangements.
Mediation voucher – eligibility criteria2 hours free mediation for child arrangements
- Purpose: Financial assistance for families to resolve disputes through mediation, reducing the need for court proceedings.
- Eligibility: Applicable for cases involving child arrangements. Not available for financial matters alone.
- Funding Details: Covers up to 2 hours of joint mediation sessions at no cost. No income criteria required; funding is not means-tested.
- Limitations: Only one voucher can be used per family.
- How to Apply: Your mediator will manage the application process and secure the voucher on your behalf.
- Important Note: An individual MIAM session must be booked and attended before using the voucher.
